'P.S. I Love You' Starring Hilary Swank Is Getting A Sequel 13 Years After Its Original Release

You may want to get your handkerchiefs and tissues ready for the sequel to "P.S. I Love You," the runaway 2007 movie that left many viewers in tears.

Originally intended to be a modest film with a supernatural touch, the unexpected $156 million haul at the box office prompted Alcon Entertainment to secure the rights to a continuation of the story, which the first time around featured Hilary Swank as a grieving widow getting letters from the afterlife.

According to Hollywood industry publication Variety, moves are being made to adapt Postscript, the 2019 follow-up book to the original story from 2004 by Irish author Cecelia Ahern, who was just 21 years old when she made her publishing debut. Postscript takes place seven years after Holly's tragic loss of her husband Gerry to brain cancer.

In the original film, Holly starts receiving letters from her late husband, which in the beginning felt as if they were being written by a ghost, but they were in reality carefully arranged by Gerry before he passed away.

"P.S. I Love You" explored issues of grieving, unconditional love, and guilt.

Postscript will unfold seven years after the first story. There is a bit of Irish folk numerology involved here because of the belief about cycles lasting about seven years. In Holly's case, she has learned to grieve and let go, but her sister wants her to help with a podcast directed at people who want to leave letters to their loved ones before they pass away.

Part of the message in Postscript is centered on whether Holly is up to the challenge of helping others when she has still has grief issues of her own.

This new film project already has a built-in audience because Ahern has grown up to become a very successful writer. It should be noted that Ahern has explained that she has felt an emotional change within her over the last few years, and this will be reflected in the film. If your friends are fans of "P.S.
