A letter that was written by the late Princess Diana is being sold at an auction. Diana talks about how thrilled the young Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex were for the holiday season. The letter was originally sent to a woman named Ivy Woodward on December 5, 1990.

According to the Independent, the late Princess Diana met Woodward in September 1990 when she was visiting her husband Prince Charles in a hospital, who had suffered a broken arm while playing polo. Ms. Woodward was at the hospital because her son was in a coma after being badly injured in a motorcycle accident.

Diana comforted Ivy, and her son Dean was able to return home that year. Diana wrote a letter to Ms. Woodward shortly after their encounter, greeting her during the holiday season. She had good wishes for her and her son who was recovering from the coma. She mentioned that her young sons, Harry and William, whom she referred to as "the boys" were thrilled at the approaching event of Christmas. She explained that they were eagerly on the lookout for packages that could be intended for them.

Diana, aged 29 at the time, said that she and Ivy shared a unique bond that she treasured. The letter was written on stationery that was marked with the Kensington Palace letterhead. The value of the item is being set at £2,000 to £3,000, (about US$2.580 to US$$3.880)and is being auctioned at Lawrences Auctioneers in Bletchingley, Surrey.

The letter that Diana wrote to Ivy was obviously heartfelt. They were both mothers who had loved ones who were suffering from serious trauma. Sarah Ward, a staff member at the auction house remarked that Diana's sense of connection with common people could be seen in this letter.

The letter is being sold along with another one that Diana wrote that was addressed to her bodyguard, Sergeant Ronald Lewis. He had accompanied them on a trip in 1990 to Lagos, Nigeria. She referred to herself as the "boss's wife," and she thanked him for enduring the hot weather to perform his duties for the royal couple. This letter is also being valued at £2,000 to £3,000. The person who currently owns them is a private collector.
