Jun 21, 2019

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be splitting from the joint charity that they shared with Prince William and Kate Middleton: The Royal Foundation. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be forming their own foundation based on their interests.

The news was reported in The Independent, which also stated that the two couples will continue to work together on some projects in the future. For now, Harry and Meghan will be transitioning out of the Foundation work and will venture out on their own later this year. The original Royal Foundation will be renamed the “Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge”.

The Royal Foundation confirmed the news in a statement, which cites a restructuring as the reason for why they will separate: “These changes are designed to best complement the work and responsibilities of Their Royal Highnesses as they prepare for their future roles, and to better align their charitable activity with their new households.”

It would seem to make sense at the arrival of new royal baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Queen had also granted the creation of a separate household for the Sussexes in March. Previously, Prince Harry had his own office but now the young family are treated as one unit

One of the projects that Kate, Will, Harry, and Meghan will continue to work on is the “Heads Together” initiative. It is a mental health program “which combines a campaign to tackle stigma and change the conversation on mental health with fundraising for a series of innovative new mental health services,” according to their website.
