Police Find Injured Pit Bull On Street At 4 Am And Cuddle With Her Until Animal Services Arrive

May 31, 2019

Patrick Hennessy was going to work just before dawn when he saw something strange in Orange County, Florida. They were in the middle of the road, but Patrick couldn't tell what they were. When he slowed his vehicle down, he could see that the two figures were pit bulls. Patrick figured that one of the dogs was hurt because he saw blood on the pavement. The other pit bull refused to walk away from its friend. The Dodo reported on the story.

Patrick called the police, and two officers came to the scene. Officers Boggs and Reed carefully approached the two terrified pit bulls, but they began to calm down when they realized that the men where there to help them. The first thing that the officers did was move the dogs out of harm's way. The officers determined that one pit bull had a gash in its leg. They treated the wound by wrapping it with a bandanna so that they could stop the bleeding. They also gave them something to eat and made the two female dogs very happy.

Apparently, the injured dog was hit by a car. While they were waiting for Orange County Animal Services to pick the pair up, the officers sat with them and cuddled them. In the meantime, Adam came upon the scene, and he was touched by what he was witnessing. He took the officers' picture and sent it to the Sherriff's Office, and staff posted the picture on the office's Facebook page.

Adam wrote, "The deputies stood by with the dogs until Animal Services arrived. These pictures I took depict a loving nature from our deputies and will tug at any animal lover's heart strings. Thank you." Liberty and Justice, the two pit bulls, snuggled in the officers' arms. Animal Services finally came and took Liberty and Justice to a shelter where they were bathed and allowed to rest.

As people began to see the Facebook posts, the two officers began to receive praise. Most of the praise came from owners of pit bulls who know that pit bulls are often misunderstood. One person left a comment that read, "Thank you so much Deputy Reed and Deputy Boggs. When you can extend a helping hand to not just humans but other creatures as well, it says a great deal about your character."
