NFL Star Asks To Adopt A Shelter's Least Adoptable Dog

At animal shelters, the cute puppies and energetic fluffy dogs go out the door quickly. But other dogs aren't so lucky. These dogs are less adoptable, either because of their breed, age, medical issues, temperament, or other issues. Some of these less adoptable dogs can spend months and even years in the shelter.

Ronnie Stanley, a Baltimore Ravens football player, knew he didn't want a designer pup. He wanted to rescue a dog, so he asked the BARCS Animal Shelter for a special request; he wanted to adopt their least adoptable dog.

The animal shelter was excited with his request, as one of the dogs who's been there for years would get a forever home. The shelter worker showed Ronnie and his girlfriend Emily around and introduced him to plenty of their dogs. In the end, Ronnie and Emily chose a six year old pitbull named Winter to take home.

Before being adopted by a sports star, Winter had a hard life. She was found abandoned in an empty property. She had no air conditioning and she was trapped inside. She was extremely dehydrated and scared when volunteers found her. Volunteers noticed her distinct hanging belly, which they said was a result of overbreeding.

Ronnie and Emily renamed the pup as Lola. She was taken to their spacious home and now spends her days playing in a huge backyard with her owners or curling up and cuddling on the couch.

Winter, now Lola, may have had a hard life but after being adopted by this NFL star, she's been living the life she deserved all along.

Would you adopt an old and unpopular dog, or are designer dogs more your style? Show this to friends and family to put a smile on their face - no one could resist it after seeing Lola's puppy dog eyes!
