Mother Creates A 'Juvenile Detention Center' As A Punishment After Finding Out Her Daughter Was A Bully

Being bullied when you are growing up can leave scars for life. So when a parent finds out that it is their own child doing the bullying, they need to take the correct action to make sure that their child will not do it again.

Many parents typically ground their kid or make them write an apology letter. But Amanda Mitchell, from Newfoundland, Canada, found a unique way to punish her daughter for bullying her best friend. She sent her to “Mommy’s Juvenile Detention Center.”

Mitchell stripped Hannah’s room of basically all of her belongings when the nine-year-old bullied her best friend. She only left one single outfit that had an anti-bullying slogan on it for Hannah to wear every single day of the week-long punishment.

She posted her solution on Facebook in a post that is now set to private. The post read: “Welcome to Mommy’s Juvenile Detention, little girl.”

She also made her daughter write sentences 50 times apiece, such as “I will be kind to everyone” and “I will not lie.”

The mother doesn’t believe that the punishment was too harsh. She stated that if Hannah grows up to break the law she will be put in jail in a similar situation, and that is definitely not what she wants for her children.

Amanda believes that many people do not punish their children adequately for their misbehavior, but that in her house, this isn’t the case.

Amanda received a call from the school telling her that Hannah had been acting up all week. She said that this isn’t her typical behavior and that her daughter is usually very well-behaved. Hannah had been picking on a friend and had hurt the little girls’ feelings. She also says that she was caught lying to other teachers.

She says that Hannah is remorseful concerning her actions and that the punishment was successful. She wrote two letters; one to her friend, one to her teacher.

Facebook users were varied in their opinion of the punishment. Many thought that it was “awesome parenting” and that Amanda was a “strong mom” for choosing this punishment for her daughter.

Others thought she was extreme and borderline abusive.

Amanda lightened her daughter’s punishment after she read through some negative comments. She gave Hannah four anti-bullying shirts to wear to school for the week and made her write 25 lines instead of 50.

Amanda stated that she is not doing harm to her child and is making her go through the punishment out of love. She wants her to grow up well-rounded and kind. She told her daughter that she loves her and this is why she is giving her the punishment that she is.

What do you think of this punishment? Too harsh or just perfect? Let us know and pass it on to your friends for their thoughts!
