Mom Of Six With Open-Door Policy Gives 100 Lunches To Hungry Kids In Neighborhood Every Day

Not every kid is fortunate enough to have a meal every day. While some school lunch programs do exist, there are still children who have to sit through their lunch hour watching their friends eat. These children aren’t just in big cities and foreign countries: many are in our own backyard.

Champale Anderson is a mother of six in North St. Louis who is trying to make a difference in her neighborhood. When she noticed local kids were still hungry after school, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

For over five years, any child in the neighborhood has been able to knock on Champale’s door to get a free packed lunch. Whether kids don’t have enough or are just hungry, they can use her open-door policy to get one of the 100-plus lunches she packs every day.

Champale told Currents News that she lives according to a quote by Mother Teresa, "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across waters to create many ripples.”

Champale calls her program “Champ’s Teardrops” and works hard to feed as many underprivileged children in her neighborhood as possible. Her goal is to start going to different neighborhoods and start handing out lunches.

While “Champ’s Teardrops” is growing, this mother of 6 needs support to keep her mission going. Aside from paying for the meals out-of-pocket, she is asking for donations and has set up a GoFundMe page.

If you are interested in helping Champale, you can donate bread, lunch meat, and snacks to her St. Louis location. If you aren't local, visit her GoFundMe for information on how you can support her cause.
