Mom Left In Tears When The Teacher Snatches The Mic From Her Son During A School Play

Nov 26, 2018

We all have been there: nervous and excited for a part in our school play. This is a day that so many children and parents look forward to every year.

Most children hope to have their parents and family watch them from the audience. The children with parents that can actually take time off from work to see them are the luckiest ones.

The moms and dad that are able to watch their little ones on stage, singing or acting their hearts out. These kids, in turn, will beam from the stage as their parents sit and watch them.

No "Gobble, Gobble" This Thanksgiving

Looking forward to feeling this way, Amanda Riddle, of Nutter Fort, West Virginia, was incredibly excited to see her son Caleb in his big Thanksgiving play.

Caleb has mild autism and was incredibly excited for his lines! However, just as Amanda was watching Caleb prepare to speak his lines, his teacher took the mic. Horrified and embarrassed, Caleb began crying on stage. Amanda sat in the audience, heartbroken. It was hard to watch her son's special moment taken away so cruelly.

Caleb was to say "gobble, gobble" at the end of the play. When Amanda took her complaints to the administration, the school pointed out that Caleb had no lines and that the play was, in fact, over.

A Teacher's Choice

Amanda wondered, who would it hurt to give Caleb his few seconds to speak his "gobble, gobble" line. Instead of being able to share such a precious moment with her son, Amanda was forced to watch Caleb cry. It broke her heart.

When confronted again, the school administration admits that they should've handled the situation in a better way.

While the administration insists that the teacher was simply acknowledging the play was over, the superintendent shares that they would've done things differently if they "had to do it again".

It's easy to say we would've acted differently in the same scenario. However, watching the video, it's clear to see just how upset Caleb was. "Oh no!" He cries, as his expression changed from one of pure excitement to complete distress.

What do you think of the whole scenario? Should the school have handled the situation differently? Leave your comments below and involve your friends and family so that they can also add their opinions.
