Mom Has Triplets Years After Delivering Twins In Rare Occurrence

May 24, 2023

Babies are always a blessing, and for one Virginia mom, her blessings came in quite surprising numbers!

Monique Davaul and her partner, Lamar Logan, welcomed their first child, son Messiah Logan, who is 8 years old. Two years later, Davaul again fell pregnant – this time with twins! They welcomed twin sons, Nasir and Sincere, before Davaul found herself expecting a third time five years later. In a rare turn of events, doctors told Davaul that she was carrying triplets.

Back when Davaul discovered she was pregnant with twins, the news was already quite overwhelming for her.

“I cried and cried, asking, ‘What will I do with two babies at once?’” she told Today. However, she soon became enamored with her little tots. “I enjoy dressing them alike and watching them bond — they love being together.”

Upon realizing she was pregnant a third time, Davaul created a stir at the hospital when doctors conducted an ultrasound and found she was carrying triplets, a rare occurrence for someone conceiving naturally.

“They said, ‘Ms. Davaul, you're pregnant with triplets’ — they were really excited. They (asked if I) conceived naturally and I said, ‘You think I will do something to have three kids at once? I already have three at home!’ I had never seen a set of triplets until I had them,” Davaul exclaimed.

Davaul delivered her triple bundle of joy – daughters Mielle, Jihad and Noelle – at 33 weeks at the Riverside Regional Medical Center on April 12, 2023. The newborns stayed in its neonatal ICU for a few weeks but were able to be home with their parents by Mother’s Day weekend.

As Davaul and Logan readied their two-bedroom home to settle in their new family of eight, a hospital spokesman told Today Davaul naturally conceiving twins, then triplets as well, was a case “so rare that it’s hard to find any statistics on the occurrence.”

Meanwhile, staff at the center were happy to have played a part in Davaul’s journey. “We’re so proud to have been a part of this special moment for this family. Moments like these are truly a reminder of why we love being nurses. It’s been 5 years since we’ve seen triplets. It’s an honor to be able to provide care and support to families during the most important times of their lives,” a statement provided to the outlet read.

Davaul is slowly adjusting to life with triplets, twins and a son in tow. “I don’t have any complaints, but I’m surprised I am able to adapt,” the 30-year-old told Today. “I guess God is looking over me. I just do what I got to do. It's my job as a mother to provide for my babies.”

She added her older kids are quite helpful when it comes to their infant sisters.

“Messiah is helpful when getting the (older) kids ready for school and with the babies,” she told Today. Twins Nasir and Sincere, meanwhile, are “excited and they try to help out. Nasir tries to sleep in the room with us, and they say, ‘My baby brother, my baby sisters,’” Davaul told Good Morning America.

As for the triple bundle of joy, Davaul described Mielle as “sassy,” Jihad as “calm” and Noelle as “sweet.”
