Mom Claims 4-Year-Old Daughter Contracted Deadly Infection After Trying On Shoes Without Socks

Sep 11, 2018

In the United Kingdom, a doting mother recently experienced an unexpected horror when her 4-year-old daughter suddenly fell ill. The initial cause of her child's illness will send you scratching your head, as well as follow the simple advice her mother now adamantly preaches.

Jodie Thomas, a young mother of three kids, went to a local shop to purchase back-to-school clothing and supplies. She helped her 4-year-old daughter, Sienna Rasul, try on a pair of shoes at the store without any socks. Everything was seemingly fine once their shopping trip was over and they headed off to home.

What happened the next day would have brought sheer panic to any parent. Little Sienna was quickly becoming feverish, an unsightly infection was spreading up one of her legs and nothing her mother did seemed to stave off the infection.

Jodie recalled witnessing her daughter having uncontrollable shaking and twitching. She immediately drove Sienna to the nearest hospital and found out that she was suffering from an almost severe case of sepsis. Luckily, her daughter survived the scary ordeal but it is all too common that many people, especially the elderly, don't recover from the infection.

According to the National Institute of General Sciences, over a million Americans are diagnosed with a severe case of sepsis each year. Roughly 15 to 30 percent of those Americans that were infected have died.

It was assumed by one of Sienna's physicians that she might have had a tiny cut or abrasion on her foot before trying on the new shoes. Dr. Ron Daniels, who serves as the chief executive of the U.K. Sepsis Trust, explains that sepsis can strike indiscriminately at any moment and it's crucial for you to seek medical attention immediately if there are any signs of infection. Common signs of a sepsis infection can include fever, rapid breathing, rash, disorientation, confusion, and an increased heart rate.

Jodie Thomas continuously warns mothers and fathers everywhere to always make sure that their child has on a pair of socks before trying on any style of shoe at the store. She has also stated that she's been guilty of trying on shoes herself while barefooted in the past and will start bringing a fresh pair of socks in her purse from now on.

Have you ever tried on footwear at the store or even your best friend's pair without donning any socks? If so, then maybe this story of Sienna will hopefully make you think twice next time, or maybe become a perfect eye-opener for someone you know. Pass this on to your friends and loved ones as well.
