Miley Cyrus Gets Emotional Speaking About Her Dad Billy Ray Cyrus & Fame

Aug 30, 2023

Miley Cyrus is an amazing American singer, songwriter and actress who is popularly known as a pop chameleon. Over the years, the talented artist has been celebrated for her exceptional musical skills. She has released albums with chart-topping singles like "Wrecking Ball" and "Flowers," to mention but a few. Miley has also thrived in her acting career, starring in TV classics and movies like "Hannah Montana: The Movie," "LOL'' and many others.

It is no surprise Miley has been rocking the entertainment industry, being the daughter of one of America's most beloved country singers, Billy Ray Cyrus. Billy and his daughter always had an amazing father-daughter relationship right from her childhood. In a video posted on TikTok on Aug. 26, 2023, the "7 Things'' singer got emotional as she reminisced on her childhood and her father's fame.

This was not the first time Miley had gotten emotional on air, and her dad sometimes seemed to be the center of it or there to support her. In March 2019, the "The Voice" judge broke down at the memorial service of one of her contestants, and Billy was there to lend a shoulder. The contestant, Janice Freeman, who unfortunately had cervical cancer and financial problems, developed a friendship with Miley after choosing her as her coach.

Miley supported Freeman in improving her music career and also helped her family. Sadly, Freeman passed away in 2019 as a result of pneumonia and a blood clot. At the memorial service, the "The Voice" judge wanted to dedicate a song to Freeman but burst into tears and could not continue with her performance.

Fortunately, Billy took over from his daughter and performed an emotional version of "Amazing Grace." Miley was able to join her father, and the duo performed the soulful rendition together.

It goes without saying that the actress has a special bond with her father, Billy. The duo have always thrived together in music and movies, enjoying their special moments. The father-and-daughter also starred in "Hannah Montana" with Billy cast as her father onscreen.

However, in 2011, Billy told GQ that the "show destroyed my family." Billy continued that he wished the show had never taken place and would erase it if he could. The "Could've Been Me" singer said:

"For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic."

In 2010, less than a year after "Hannah Montana" concluded in 2011, Billy filed for divorce from Tish Cyrus. When he withdrew his petition, Tish refilled for divorce in 2013, they reconciled, and Billy refilled in April 2022. In August 2023, Tish married Dominic Purcell, while Billy got engaged to Firerose in November 2022.

On the other hand, the "Can't Be Tamed" singer felt something different about the film. Miley wrote on Instagram on Aug. 27, 2023, that she sometimes felt like her life only started when the "Hannah Montana'' premiere aired. She also added that before she assumed the role of Hannah, "there was Miley." The award-winning singer also explained her fantasy and appreciated her fans, who have continued to provide the love needed to fulfill her purpose. She wrote:

"My fantasy was to light up the world with laughter, music & iconic moments that last beyond my lifetime."

Miley talked about her dad's fame in a 2023 TikTok series, “Used to Be Young,” which is also the name of one of her singles. In the video, the songstress reflected on Billy's fame and how they saw fame differently. While talking about these special memories, the singer could not help but get emotional. In the video, after looking at the top 100 country songs in 1992, she said:

"When I was born, my dad had the No. 1 country song. When I see the numbers, I just see humans behind it, enjoying the music. I just see people in numbers."

The singer continued that for her father, fame meant something else. She shared that when Billy felt special or important, "It's like healing a childhood wound." She also added that she has always been made to feel like a star and, "It makes me emotional." She shared:

"My dad grew up the opposite of me, so I think that's where me and my dad's relationship to fame and success is widely different. Him feeling loved by a big audience impacted him emotionally more than it ever could me."

Also, in the TikTok video, Miley watched an old clip of her dad singing and playing a guitar to her. She then continued talking about her great memories of singing with Billy while learning and absorbing music. The actress also noted, "I would say that I feel vocally my dad is under-appreciated."

Miley played another video showing her dancing as a kid with her father on stage. Per Glamour, the actress also revealed that her new single, "Used to Be Young," was about honoring who she has been and is and celebrating who she will become.
