Michael J. Fox Is All Smiles With His New Pet Dog Blue Who Looks Like Einstein The Dog

Mar 09, 2023

Michael J. Fox, 61, is a revered actor whose work goes back to the late 1970s. He rose to fame with his role on "Family Ties" before becoming a bonafide icon of the '80s in the wildly popular Back to the Future film franchise.

Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 at the age of 29 but only went public with the diagnosis seven years later. Since then, the 59-year-old has reprised many roles on the small screen on "Scrubs," "Boston Legal," "Designated Survivor," "The Good Wife," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Rescue Me" – even bagging an Emmy win for the latter in 2009. He even starred in his own short-lived sitcom, the "Michael J. Fox Show."

During his previous interviews, Fox had revealed that his 40-year-spanning acting career would be coming to a bittersweet end. The Emmy-award-winning Hollywood legend also revealed plans for retirement in his memoir, "No Time Like the Future," as his Parkinson's disease continues to progress.

Despite his diagnosis, Fox has grown both professionally and personally. He has been married to Tracy Pollan, his "Family Ties" co-star, since 1988, and the couple has four kids: Sam, who is 34; twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, who are 27; and Esme, who is 20. Michael has been a devoted father and husband and speaks very highly of his loved ones in all four of his memoirs.

But aside from his loving kids, Fox is also a proud parent to another member of his family – his dogs. In an Instagram post, Fox introduced to the world the new addition to their big family, their dog, Blue!

In Fox's recent memoir "No Time Like the Future," the actor expressed his love of animals as his best friend/family pet dog Gus was prominently featured in it.

Speaking more to CBS News about Gus, Fox described his pet dog to be a "force multiplier."

According to the outlet, Gus, who is believed to be of the Great Dane breed, has been almost half as long as Fox has been in battle with his Parkinson's disease. Sometimes, he even said that he needed his dog more than others: "It's very come-and-go, it's not off, literally on and off."

Gus was an important part of Fox's recovery as he was a "support animal in every sense of the word.

"He kind of circles the wheelchair, with this low kind of woof woof, woof woof, and sat in front of the wheelchair right in front of me, and looked at me, and I said, 'It's gonna be okay," Fox recounted as he recalled the time when he arrived at the hospital in a wheelchair, and good boy Gus was waiting at his doorstep.

Fox even confessed to the outlet that Gus was actually receptive to the fact that he was suffering from illness or sickness.

"I know with Gus he does; he knows there's something different about me," Fox confirmed.

"And your instinct when you have a chronic illness is, sometimes, to isolate and make your world as small as possible so you don't have as much to deal with. But a dog will open you up."

Sadly, in April 2021, Gus passed away, as Fox confirmed on his Instagram account.

In his memoir, Fox wrote dearly of his departed best friend.

"I didn't rescue Gus. You can argue that he rescued me, but he'd be too modest to make that claim," he wrote. In his Instagram post announcing the death of his pup, Fox also referenced the pages of his memoir where he talked about him.

Two years later, the Fox household welcomes a new addition to their family. On Fox's Instagram post last Mar. 7, 2023, the actor was all smiles as he posed a photo with his new pet dog, Blue.

Blue, which looks like a mixed breed of Maltese and poodle, is commonly known as the Maltipoo breed. The four-legged fur baby is white in color with black and gray spots on his left eye and both ears.

"Hey Blue, welcome to your new home!" Fox said in his post

Fans were quick to comment on how adorable the photo was.

"Blue can be my daughters' dog Blue's twin. Her name is Bleu too!" a fan commented

"THIS IS CRAZY NUTS! What a gorgeous girl! Tell her Auntie Ali can't wait to play," actress Ali Wentworth said in a comment

"There's not a lot of things in life that makes us as happy as when we have pets," another shared

"Oh my gosh!! So cute," Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore said.

Some even pointed out the similarity between Blue and the famous "Back To The Future" dog, Einstein.

"Aww he looks like a baby Einstein!" a fan suggested

"A descendant of Einstein the dog! Probably not, but we can pretend," another echoed
