Man On Cruise Docks At An Island, Sees Dying Dog Running Toward Him

Aug 23, 2018

David Foster was enjoying a river cruise when the unthinkable happened. The cruise was planning on docking to enjoy a barbecue with the guests at an island. The island is located exactly where the Amazon River stops, so the island is pretty deserted with not much to look at, so Foster was shocked when he spotted something coming towards him.

As Foster peered across the water, he saw something moving in the distance. Once he got closer to the object, he realized that the object was none other than a stray dog who had been abandoned in the area.

Foster recalls seeing the dog and remembers how skeletal it looked. There was no way that he was about to leave this dog to fend for himself.

“When she came running down the beach and all I could see was this skeletal form, there was absolutely no way I was going to step away from this moment and not help this poor dog.”

The dog is now named Negrita. Negrita was excited when she laid eyes on Foster, as she probably hadn’t seen another living being in a long time. Despite her extremely emaciated condition, she wanted to be around the people and wagged her tail the entire time.

The guests on the cruise fed her some food from their ship, which she happily enjoyed. Although it is unknown just how long she had been left on the island for without food and shelter, it is believed that she was abandoned by her owner.

Foster then decided to bring the dog back on the cruise ship in order to take her to safety. Unfortunately, other passengers weren’t as thrilled about saving the dog as he was. Once Foster had fallen asleep, the passengers took Negrita off the ship again. Once he had woken up and realized what the other passengers had done, he demanded to the captain that they go back for the dog.

Thankfully, Negrita had not given up hope and was still waiting for them on the shore. It was in this moment that Foster realized how much this dog meant to him already, and he was not only determined to rescue her but he also wanted to provide a home for her.

Foster and Negrita exited the boat and trekked to one of the main cities that was nearby. He found someone who spoke English and got her to agree to tend to the dog until he could come back to her and bring Negrita back to Ireland with him. Five months later, the happy dog was recovered and flew to Ireland to be reunited with her new owner!

Because she looked so much better than when she found him, he was excited to see how well she was doing. This dog got a second chance at life thanks to Foster and is now living it up in her new loving home. Would you rescue a dog in similar circumstances?
