Kenny The Rescued Paralyzed Doberman Walks Again After Surgery And Rehabilitation

Dec 18, 2019

Animal rescue groups rarely know what they are likely to encounter when they get up in the morning. With animal abuse and neglect rampant across the nation, it can be a thankless and heartbreaking job.

When the Doberman Rescue came across a Doberman named Kenny who was paralyzed, it looked like it might be a sad future for the poor dog. But, with the help of others, Kenny’s story became a miracle!

The Doberman Rescue teamed up with the group “Two Hands Four Paws” to give Kenny the help that he needed to overcome his injuries. Although no one is sure what happened to injure Kenny’s neck and leave him paralyzed, team members suspect that a kennel gate was likely dropped on the poor dog. Because of this injury, Kenny was unable to use any of his four legs.

Initially, the Doberman Rescue thought that putting Kenny down would be the only option but, after talking to “Two Hands Four Paws” founder Leslie Gallagher, a different plan was quickly established.

According to the Daily Mail, Leslie offered that she would take Kenny in and do everything in her power to restore his mobility. When Kenny got to “Two Hands Four Paws”, the staff began a rigorous treatment plan to restore his leg function, but nothing they did seemed to help. After a month with the team, Kenny still had to be carried everywhere and was unable to use the bathroom on his own.

Kenny was already in pain from his injury, and things only got worse when he developed cancerous tumors with the removal treatment giving him pneumonia. Kenny’s future was looking bleak and the possibility of ever helping him walk seemed unlikely. Finally, the team turned to the internet to raise money so that the poor dog could receive an MRI and neurosurgery – a last ditch effort at saving his life.

Within a small amount of time, Kenny’s fund raised $9,000 in donations. Thanks to the money raised, Kenny was able to undergo surgery. After the surgery, everyone was thrilled to see Kenny start to improve. His pain went away and he began to be able to move his limbs some.

Kenny continued to receive treatment that included massage therapy, exercises, and acupuncture. Finally, he took his first steps. Now, Kenny is able to run, play with the other animals, and act like any other dog. It’s amazing to see all that this brave dog overcame!

We are so thankful that the team never gave up on Kenny and that they made his recovery possible!
