Kelly Clarkson Files For Divorce Following Almost Seven-Year-Marriage And Astounds Fans

Jun 12, 2020

In one of the sadder moments in celebrity news recently, Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband of seven years, Brandon Blackstock, on June 4th, 2020. Married since October 2013, Clarkson and Blackstock share two children, River and Remington, together. Despite positive remarks about their relationship in various interviews recently, it appears their isolation together in Montana may have exacerbated the dissolution of their marriage.

Entertainment Tonight confirmed the sad news, stating that Clarkson was the one to file for divorce in Los Angeles on June 4th, citing irreconcilable differences. Court documents show that the separation date is listed as TBD, while Clarkson is asking for "joint legal and physical custody of River and Remington," as reported by ET.

They go on to state that Clarkson has "asked the court to terminate the ability to award spousal support to Blackstock. She is asking [that] the court enforces their premarital agreement, and that both parties cover their own attorney's fees. She's also asking that her last name legally be restored to Clarkson, after taking Blackstock's last name. Property and asset division are unknown at this time and will be determined at a later date."

A source close to the couple spoke to ET and explained that quarantine may have been the final deal-breaker in their marriage. The source said that the couple "had been having problems for several months and were making a conscious effort to work things out. They both hoped quarantining away from L.A. in Montana would help them work things out in their marriage, but instead the change in environment was actually detrimental." Furthermore, they added that spending so much time together is what made their situation worse in the end. What a tough situation in an already hard period that we're all going through.

One fan even commented on the divorce:
"Oh no! 😢 Guess this marriage is one of the first victims of quarantine."

It's no wonder fans didn't see it coming when just two months ago Blackstock posted to Instagram wishing Clarkson a happy birthday, according to ET, while they also reported that Clarkson called Blackstock her "partner in crime" in an interview with them. Clarkson and Blackstock initially met in 2006 but only got together six years later after Blackstock had divorced his first wife. They were engaged by the end of 2012, married in October of the next year, and soon after had their kids River, who is five, and Remington, who's four.
