Kathy Bates, the famous actress, has had the misfortune to battle cancer twice in her life. This amazing woman opened up in an interview about her experience and said she had not only defeated cancer twice but thought the experience had overall had a positive impact on her approach to life.
Bates was diagnosed with stage I ovarian cancer in 2003, she told People in the interview. She did not reveal her condition to the public and underwent surgery and chemotherapy. She was lucky to have been diagnosed in stage I.
Then, Bates was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. Her condition was advanced enough that the doctors recommended she undergo a double mastectomy. She underwent the recommended treatment and is cancer-free today.

In an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, she talked about how having a positive outlook about her health had been critical to getting through the experience. She also recounted a rather bizarre experience she had that involved a bird colliding with her glass patio door and lying stunned on the patio.
Bates said her niece suggested giving the bird some water, so they did, and the bird revived and flew away. Her niece Linda asked her if she had understood the message the bird had tried to send to her.
"She said, 'you thought you were dead, but now you can fly into a new life,'" she said on The Kelly Clarkson Show. "After that, I just thought, 'everything is going to be okay.' It was a moment of grace."
Bates says she has never felt healthier than she does right now. Although she was at first not sure if she should share her cancer experiences, she has decided to talk about it in hopes it inspires someone else out there struggling with cancer.
If you are equally inspired by this brave woman, consider telling everyone you know about this positive message of hope.
