Jul 22, 2019

Herbert DeLaigle, 94, and Marilyn Frances DeLaigle, 88, both passed away on the same day after being married since 1948. The Georgia couple took their last breaths at a hospital in Waynesboro. Herbert passed first at 2:20 am. Just 12 hours later, his wife joined him in eternity.

The couple met in 1947 when Herbert visited the White Way Cafe in Waynesboro where Marilyn was working. Herbert said that Marilyn caught his eye right away but it took him some time to get up the courage to finally ask her out on a date. The pair went to a movie for their first date and the rest is history. Herbert proposed just one year after that first date.

Marilyn admits that she had her doubts about marrying Herbert because he was continuously late. The couple almost missed their own wedding day because they were an hour late to the ceremony. Thankfully, the preacher agreed to marry them despite the tardiness.

Herbert served in World War II, necessitating that the pair live in Germany for six years. They eventually moved back home and began raising their family. The couple has six children, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

This lovely couple deserves to be recognized for their commitment to each other. After you have watched this touching video, be sure to spread the love to all of your own loved ones.
