Good Samaritans Approach Terrified And Shaking Dog — His Rescue Is Warming Hearts

Aug 05, 2020

In 2018, the Los Angeles non-profit Hope For Paws shared a video showing an abandoned and abused dog named Holly terrified of her rescuers. The team received a call from Cheryl Cook to rescue the frightened animal.

After a great deal of trauma, we often find it difficult to trust anyone ever again. It is no different for animals. Whether they were neglected or simply mistreated, regaining the trust of an animal like this is a long process that requires a high level of patience.

Hope For Paws is a team of individuals who are experts at rescuing animals in need. They have rescued animals from various types of situations. One of their more recent rescues involved a frightened puppy. The team received a call from a local named Cheryl Cook to pick up the dog. They arrived on the scene to find a small dog cowering in the corner of a doorway, terrified of the humans surrounding her.

She was even scared more so as one of the team members, Eldad, took a step towards her, as you'll see in the video. The puppy begins shaking in fear with each step that Eldad takes towards her. From the way this pup is reacting to the presence of humans, one can only imagine what horrors she must have been through in her life.

To successfully rescue this pup, Eldad has to plan his actions accordingly. The first thing he has to do is to make sure she will not run away or attack him. He attempts to use the animal control pole, a pole with a lasso at the end of it. The dog becomes aggressive as fear takes over and she tries to defend herself. If she was cooperating, the process could have gone a lot smoother.

After multiple attempts, Eldad finally secures the pup into the lasso and pulls out a blanket. He uses the blanket to make contact with the dog. If the dog lashes out aggressively, the blanket will act as a barrier and protect him from scratches or bites. After a few calm words and gentle touches, Eldad is able to hold the dog and stroke her softly. After making sure she is calm enough to not lash out again, he attempts to build trust with this puppy.

To successfully rescue this puppy, he has to make sure that she understands that the team is not there to hurt her. This process takes approximately 20 minutes as Eldad tries his best to bond with the puppy. After pulling the puppy onto his lap, she calms down and seems more comfortable around him. She lets him pet her head affectionately and sits quietly as he holds her.

After a bit, she falls asleep in his lap. The most difficult part of the rescue is now over and it seems like the little puppy, who Cheryl suggests they call "Holly" is well on her way to having a new life. After the rescue, Holly is taken to the rescue center and is groomed properly. The team gives her a warm bath, a healthy meal, and the bed she deserves. In order to rehabilitate and find a permanent home for Holly, she will have to look her best! When the team is done grooming Holly, she looks like a new dog.

The team lets her play with the other puppies at the foster home and even gives her a little blouse to wear! We hope that Holly finds a good foster home or forever home soon. It's so sad to see how some animals had to learn to be afraid of humans, but seeing rescues such as these gives us back a little hope and faith.
