German Shepherd Is Sleeping On Back Seat But Pops Up When Her Favorite Song Comes On

Oct 09, 2018

Dogs are very responsive to auditory stimulation. We love our dogs, because they seem to understand us. They not only understand our vocalizations, but they also are very fond of music!

Many of them come when called – or at least when they hear food – but they all hear us and know what we mean when we say we love them, or tell them they are a “good dog.” It turns out, some types of music can have equally positive effects on our canine friends.

According to a study published by the Universities Federation of Welfare, classical music was observed to have a calming and quieting effect on shelter dogs; however, the same dogs weren’t at all interested in pop music or talk radio. The dogs were found to bark more during heavy metal music!

Music is actually a very helpful tool for dogs with separation anxiety. Leaving a dog alone, or with a sitter, can make him or her quite anxious; the same can be said with thunder, fireworks, and other outside noises. Music is very calming for dogs when these stressors are presented to them.

The classical music calms them, whereas heavy metal music has the opposite effect, provoking them to act in a stress-related manner, according to professional dog trainer from Cold Nose College, Brad Waggoner, in Murphy, North Carolina.

One dog in particular shows her love for music every time she hears “We Are The Champions.” The video of Lola and her keeper’s duet is one of the best dog videos we’ve seen in years!

Everyone knows that singing is a great stress-reliever, just as much as classical music is for dogs. We sing alone in the shower, and we rock out duets in cars. Our duets might just never stand up to this duet between Annie and her German Shepherd, Lola.

Watching the beginning of the video below, you can clearly tell Lola is a little sleepy and not overly interested in singing along. As the song moves along, Lola can’t help herself and begins singing her (likely very rehearsed) parts to the song!

Thank you to the two great musicians who recorded this Queen karaoke duet! Make sure any dog- and music-lovers in your life get to hear this amazing rendition of “We Are The Champions” by Lola and Annie!
