That is the safety and concern of your precious baby, as well as a motherly intuition that trumps all other reason and questioning. You are all of a sudden in charge of not only yourself but another human being who depends solely on you every second of the day. No matter what is happening in your life, your child must always come first. The following story is an amazing example of how far motherly love can go. While it is also a very sad story, it is a shining example of just how a mother takes care of her own in a terrible situation. Shelby Ann Carter of Wyoming, a young mother of a 12-week-old baby, was the sole reason her baby survived a devastating fire in which Shelby Ann was killed. When she was 21, Shelby Ann began building her perfect family. She and her boyfriend were staying in a house owned by her mother and were thrilled when Shelby Ann became pregnant. She gave birth at the beginning of January to a beautiful baby girl and was ecstatic to become a new mom. However, these plans were soon to change. The worst incident happened to the family on January 30th, one that would devastate the family forever. Home alone with her newborn, the house that Shelby Ann and her family were living in suddenly caught on fire. Toxic smoke quickly filled the house and there was no escape for her. The local firemen rushed to put out the flames as soon as they could, but unfortunately, it was too late for the new mother- she had succumbed to the deathly fumes and was found dead from carbon monoxide inhalation from smoke inhalation. However, out of the tragedy came a heartwarming story that will live on forever. Shelby Ann had quickly secured her daughter into her car seat and was able to pass her down through the second floor window, saving the life of the baby. The fire chief stated that the infant was found still in her car seat, resting on a large pile of debris. Her very last breath was sacrificed for her child-an extraordinary act of love and devotion in the face of death. The firefighters immediately took the baby, named Keana, to the hospital after finding her in the car seat. They wished to make sure she was unaffected by the smoke and fire. Thanks to the quick actions of her mother, Keana escaped with just a minor burn. This story of love and heartbreak soon went viral online, as neighbors spread the story to try and gather help for the family. In just a few short weeks, the fundraiser for the family reached almost $40,000, a great start for the family who needed to start rebuilding their home. It also helped with funeral expenses for Shelby Ann.While Keana will grow up without her mom, she will also know just how powerfully her mother loved her. Shelby Ann showed the world, through her heroic actions, just how amazing and pure a mother’s love can be.
