A 61-year-old Nebraska man is recovering after what people are calling a medical miracle. The former sports announcer and father of four suffered what his doctors assumed was a severe stroke, which caused his brain to swell and left him in a coma.

The day after Scott Marr's 61st birthday, family members found him unconscious in his home. After he was hospitalized, Scott's condition continued to decline, and hospital staff placed him on a ventilator. Eventually, his doctors declared him nearly brain dead and believed recovery was impossible.

Scott had once told his family that he would never want to be kept on life support and unable to make his own decisions, so his family members decided to say their goodbyes and remove him from life support.
