Father And Son Sing Frank Sinatra Duet In The Car

Feb 25, 2019

Perhaps nothing is more memorable when it comes to taking rides in the car than those special moments when a familiar song comes on the radio and everyone bursts into song. Whether you can carry a tune or you're tone deaf, it doesn't matter.

There are certain songs that just make you want to open up your mouth and sing at the top of your lungs! For many people nowadays, popular songs from the current top 100 list would probably be their most likely choice for a singalong. That's what makes this story so unique.

It's a dad and his little guy who are singing a duet of a song that's a real throwback to a bygone golden age of music. They're singing an old Frank Sinatra tune together, and both father and son seem to know all of the lyrics by heart! Not only do they have the words down, but they're really getting into the feel of the music. We think you'll be as blown away by the pair's rendition as we are!

After a day of shopping, 36-year-old Matt Clayton of Faversham, Kent, and his son Archie, aged 6, enthusiastically crooned this well-known duet that was performed by singing sensations Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. The name of the song is "Me and My Shadow." It's got a catchy jazz sound and was a hit recording by Whispering Jack Smith when it first came out way back in the year 1927. The Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. version recorded in 1962 paid tribute to current events of their era by adding a line about "closer than Bobby is to JFK."

Archie just let it loose when he got to the line, "like wallpaper sticks to the wall." What a talented kid! Then, when Matt chimed in, it became clear that the father and son team really means the words they're singing. We think they're referring to their own close relationship as a father and son.

He told Kent Online: 'Whenever we are in the car we are always singing along and Frank Sinatra is Archie's favourite.

Frank Sinatra is simply legendary. He's a giant in the music industry who stayed popular for many years and is still loved by genuine music lovers today. Who in the current era can really do justice to those cool and classy song lyrics? He made jazz come to life and helped to popularize this complex and sometimes under-appreciated genre. As a result of his fame, plenty of singers have attempted covers of songs he had performed. Matt and his son Archie are just the latest in a long line of Sinatra admirers, and we love what they've done with this unforgettable classic!

As soon as "Me and My Shadow" came on the radio, each of them sang their part effortlessly and with genuine feeling. It's clear that this father and son love singing together, and they've probably sung this particular song on multiple occasions.

Matt sings Sinatra's part and Archie chimes in singing Sammy's lines. Matt is an enthusiastic Sinatra fan and he's raising his little shadow Archie to follow in his footsteps when it comes to good taste in music! If you enjoy hearing father and son impromptu song sessions, this recording will be right up your alley!

Sinatra isn't always an easy act to imitate. Another little Sinatra fan, Sophie Fatu, enjoys singing Frank Sinatra songs. Her mom, Victoria Fatu, is a world-renowned pianist. That's obviously where Sophie gets her love of music. Perhaps after seeing Matt and Archie's duet, Sophie and her mom will do some recordings of Sinatra songs together!
