Fans Of '1000-lb Sisters' Said That Tammy Is 'Freaking Selfish' For Not Using An Electric Wheelchair

The TLC television series “1000-lb Sisters” has become a guilty pleasure for many people in the United States. It’s a show that follows the lives of Amy and Tammy Slaton, sisters who weigh over 1,000 pounds together and have always depended on each other for support. The television series depicts the hardships of what it’s like for them to live as morbidly obese women while trying to find their own path to health and happiness.

Similar to “My 600-lb Life,” the show “1000-lb Sisters” has a fan following of people cheering on Amy and Tammy as they navigate weight loss and other obstacles in life, specifically ones related to their health. While many people have grown to adore the sisters for their sense of humor and their relationship with each other, others have pointed out how unmotivated the sisters seem at times to really take care of themselves and take their health situation seriously.

Also, the Slaton sisters don’t always see eye to eye. Amy has become Tammy’s caretaker with the help of their brother Chris, and some fans say Tammy seems ungrateful for their help. In one episode, the family goes on vacation and visits an amusement park, and Tammy was in a bad mood the entire time.

Tammy stayed behind during some of the activities due to her bad attitude, but the family invited her to join them for dinner. They even got her an electric wheelchair to allow her to feel more independent and not need to be pushed in the mechanical wheelchair. Tammy refused to use it, and fans were shocked by her “selfish” behavior. Read on to see what else fans had to say about Tammy.

The series “1000-lb Sisters” has currently been on the air for three seasons, with each season depicting the challenging lives of overweight sisters Amy and Tammy. The two navigate their relationship together, as well as their own personal lives, mixed in with their individual weight loss goals.

Throughout each season, both sisters try to eat healthier and exercise more to ultimately give themselves a better chance at a happier, healthier and longer life. However, many fans have watched as Amy has shown to make much more progress than Tammy.

Fans have been rooting for the sisters and have shown concern over times when it seemed like they had fallen off their paths. According to Showbiz CheatSheet, Amy first weighed about 400 pounds when the reality show started and has been depicted as the “skinny sister.” She took a break from trying to lose weight when she got pregnant but got back on track shortly after, getting down to 270 pounds.

Tammy, on the other hand, has struggled a lot with her weight loss journey and has actually gained weight since the series started, according to Showbiz CheatSheet. Tammy said, “I just wasn’t doing what I needed to do. I mean, sometimes I try to eat healthier, and then other days I’m like, ‘What the heck’s the point?’”

The show’s third season began in November 2021 and showed each sister’s individual journey. While Amy has been balancing life as a new mom along with trying to lose weight, Tammy has taken the extra step at checking herself into a weight-loss facility, according to Showbiz CheatSheet.

The sisters have also had issues with each other throughout the television series, as Tammy has criticized her sister a handful of times. This rubbed some viewers the wrong way, with one saying, “I like how (Tammy) called Amy lazy for not wanting to take care of her and then the next sentence said she didn’t need a babysitter,” according to Screenrant.

Another one of these instances was when the family went to an amusement park, and Tammy was in a bad mood the entire time and did not join them except for dinner. The family decided to get an electric wheelchair for Tammy, but she refused it, claiming she would rather use the mechanical one. She then voiced her suspicions that the family only wanted to use the electric wheelchair so they wouldn’t have to push her around anymore. Fans of the show went on social media to share their opinions on Tammy’s behavior.

One fan said on Twitter, “Tammy has an attitude because the electric wheelchair makes it easier on her family. How freaking selfish can one person be?!”

Another person said, “Tammy has a lot of nerve being suspicious about whether they got the electric wheelchair for her or to alleviate the burden on them? Who cares? Obviously, she is a burden, but has the nerve to be mad that they want to make it easier on all of them?”

Some fans were worried about the toll that moving Tammy around has taken on the family. A third Twitter user pointed out, “She’s actually complaining about them getting the motorized wheelchair. Girl Michael ain’t gonna be able to pick up his kids cuz he’s gonna blow his back out messing with you. She always got something to complain about.”
