Family Dog Who Went Missing Two Years Ago Found Abandoned Almost 2,000 Miles Away

We all love our pets and usually can’t imagine a life without them. That’s exactly how a family in south Florida was feeling. They were some of the lucky ones that were reunited with their German Shepherd that had vanished from their backyard an astonishing two years prior.

Cedar was only 4 months old when she disappeared in 2017.

Doug Peterson believes that someone stole her from the yard. He said that he can’t be 100% sure about it but that’s what he believes. After her disappearance, time went on and nothing was heard about her for years.

The family made a great decision and had Cedar microchipped when adopting her. This, along with help of some others, is what ultimately brought her back home. Tamara Peterson recalls Cedar’s return and how she felt when Cedar had vanished. She was simply devastated and felt completely helpless.

She remembers everything that they went through, searching neighborhoods and looking for the pup everywhere. They even went as far as to hire a private investigator. She states that the search continued for weeks on end and then months.

It’s unbelievable that Cedar ended up 2,000 miles from her home in the state of Colorado.

A local resident in Hugo noticed a stray dog and contacted the police department for help. This is when Deputy Marshal Ryan first met Cedar.

Cedar couldn’t even walk to his patrol car because she was so weak. When he was first searching for her, he almost missed seeing her because she was covered in snow. He actually passed her twice.

When he did reach her, Cedar wouldn’t even get up. This is when Ryan decided to pick her up and carry her to the car. She was soaked and malnourished.

From there, Cedar was taken to a veterinarian. This is when it was discovered that she had been microchipped and her home was all the way in the sunshine state of Florida!

Tamara Peterson admits that she broke down when she received the news that Cedar was found. Peterson told The Miami Herald:

“I immediately cried. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock. It’s almost two years to the day.”

Cedar stayed in veterinary care for a few weeks until she was healthy enough to travel. This is when she was placed into the care of Wings of Rescue. This organization will fly pets to shelters for safety. Cedar was welcomed home by the Peterson family and they are planning to have a pool party just for her.

The family is so grateful for everyone that helped Cedar come home and they stand firm in their decision to microchip pets.
