Ellen DeGeneres Signs On To Do The Ellen Show For 3 More Years: 'This Show Has Been the Ride of My Life'

May 22, 2019

Ellen DeGeneres isn't going anywhere just yet.

Although there were rumors that the comedian was considering ending The Ellen Show, which has now been running for around 16 years, Ellen shut down the rumors by announcing that she has signed a contract to host the show for another three years.

"I've been doing this show for 16 years, that's about 3,000 episodes," DeGeneres can be heard telling her audience. "I don't remember them but I'm told they were enjoyable."

"From the beginning, I said this show was going to be like a relationship. We have been through the good, the bad, the Fifty Shades of Grey phase. It's been a lot of fun and 16 years has been a pretty good run," she continued. It seemed as though Degeneres was about to announce her departure from the show, which caused the audience to go silent. “The show has been the ride of my life.”

Degeneres took a look back to how she first started hosting the show. She explained how The Ellen Show gave her a second chance to a career on television following the cancellation of her sitcom, Ellen.

"This show was my second chance… and it turns out it also helped other people go through a tough time," she continued. "That's why I'm going to keep doing this show."

Earlier in May, Ellen spoke to Entertainment Tonight and reflected on how she knew when the time would finally come for her to step down.

"I hope I know when. When people kind of are tired of me, and I think I'll sense that," she said.

"You know, I'll walk away really when I stop having fun. I actually don't care about the rest of the people," she continued. "If I'm having fun and no one's watching, I don't care. But if I'm not having fun and everyone's watching, then I should walk away."

We’re over the moon that we get at least another three years of our beloved Ellen. Are you happy to see more of the talk show? Let us know in the comments - and make sure you pass this along to your friends and family!
