Edgardo Zúñiga Rides Across Mexico On Tricycle To Rescue Homeless Dogs

Feb 28, 2020

Edgardo Zúñiga or Edgardo “Dog Savior” is a 49-year-old Mexican man who decided to travel along Mexico's coat to rescue homeless dogs. Edgardo started his journey in his hometown of Nayarit Mexico, and then decided to go further along the coast, traveling via his tricycle.

Originally from Nayarit, Mexico, Edgardo chose this place as the starting point of his trip. He had already been through Quintana Roo, Baja California and Neuvo León with his tricycle. He carries everything he needs with him on the tricycle, including clothes, water, sheets, food, and medicine for both him and the dogs he finds on the streets.

Not only does Edgardo rescue the abandoned dogs, but he also provides them shelter next to him on his tricycle until they become in better health condition to be adopted by new owners. Once the dogs are healthy, Edgardo specifically puts them up for adoption rather than selling or giving them away, because he gains a connection with them along the trip and doesn't want them to go to just anyone. Edgardo said:

“When I walk on the roads, I see dogs that are stranded, injured, and in need of medical attention."

Thankfully Edgardo has veterinary knowledge that helps him during his trip. He also has received help from people all over the world via his Facebook page, which has enabled him to give the dogs better medical care as well as food and shelter.

Until today, Edgardo has traveled over 8,500 miles and saved over 500 homeless dogs. A photographer and traveler coined as "The Yogi Photographer" even met Edgardo and made a short film about him and his dog-saving mission. There is even a way to donate to Edgardo and his dog rescue cause.
