Don’t Be Stressed With The Mess, Follow These 10 Tips To Declutter Your Home

Are you a hoarder? No? Your home just looks like you are. Why? You’re just too busy to put all that stuff away. With driving the kids to all those soccer games, going to work, preparing meals, doing the laundry and helping with the daily homework, who has time?

Well, don’t yell, scream or cry. I’m here to help with suggestions to relieve your stress besides just ignoring the mess. 

Tip #1: Start Small

You can’t declutter everything at once. Choose one small space to declutter. It can be a closet, drawer or shelf. Focus on that space and organize it.

Tip #2: Schedule Time for Decluttering

Being a mom means you have many chores and responsibilities every day. However, you surely can set aside a few hours every month to work at decluttering your home. Taking this time to declutter will help you to get organized a little bit at a time. After several months, you can have all or most of your home organized. 

Tip #3: Stop Buying on a Whim

Why add more clutter to your home? Whenever you purchase something you really don’t need, you are adding to your clutter. Control your spending and at the same time save space in your closets. 

Tip #4: Get More Helping Hands by Making Decluttering a Family Affair

If your home is to be organized, you must convince both your husband and your children to change their habits. By teaching your children to be organized, they will benefit by these good habits over a lifetime. 

Tip #5: The Floor is Not for Storage

A rule you and your family must live by is “Nothing goes on the floor." Toys, books, crayons, pencils, pads of paper and any other item should be put back where they belong when a family member is finished using them. They should never be put on the floor. Wouldn’t it be nice if no junk was on the floor for you to trip over? 

Tip #6: Save It for Another Day

Have you ever tried to throw something in the garbage, but stopped yourself because you were emotionally attached to it? If you are going to declutter, you must get rid of stuff. You can solve this problem with a “I’m not sure” box. Just toss the item into the box and try to toss it again on another day. You may be more willing to sever your attachment to it in a few days. 

#7: Stash Your Favorite Memories

In order to declutter, you don’t have to discard everything. You, of course, have favorite things such as your child’s baby clothes or those wonderful souvenirs from vacations. Instead, just box the things you don’t use daily. When they are boxed and stored in a basement or attic, you have decluttered. 

Tip #8: Even a Bathroom Needs to be Decluttered

A bathroom is a place most people enjoy relaxing. Whether you relax in a warm bath or enjoy a hot shower, you can certainly relax in a bathroom without clutter. Get rid of those almost empty shampoos and lotions and make your bathroom a glorious place for relaxation. 

Tip #9: Reserve One Day for Laundry

Have a laundry routine every week. You may prefer to do your laundry on the same day every week. That would make the rest of the week free of laundry giving you time to do other chores. However, if you’re going to avoid a cluttered laundry room, you might try doing laundry on more than one day. The number of days you will need each week for laundry is dependent on the number of children you have as well as their ages. 

Tip #10: A Place for Everything

If your home has a place for everything, you have a neat, organized home. If every item in your home has its own place, your home will not be cluttered. Besides that, every item having its place prevents them from being lost. Just return the item to its special place when you are finished using it.
