Darci Lynne Farmer Won 'AGT' 4 Years Ago — These Days She's Grown-Up

Aug 16, 2021

At just 12-years-old, Darci Lynne Farmer from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma attained the coveted Golden Buzzer on the 12th season of "America's Got Talent" thanks to her incredible ventriloquist act. She eventually emerged as the winner of that season.

The young girl used to have a problem with shyness. When she was little, her mother was always trying to help her find ways to come out of her shell. Finally, when she was 10, her mom had an idea. What if she got her a ventriloquist's puppet? Surprisingly, Farmer took to it very well.

What's interesting is that her choice of talent is not typical for someone her age. But as she's explained many times, that's one reason that she likes it. Ventriloquism isn't exactly a common hobby for tweens, but she thinks it is one worth preserving.

After all, it's got a long tradition behind it and audiences love it. In her opinion, there's simply no good reason to let it die out without a fight. So Farmer took her ventriloquist talents to "AGT" and helped bring much-needed attention to the artform.

But that was in 2017 and Farmer was still a young girl. Now a teenager of 16, Farmer is growing up into a wonderful young woman — and she's still doing her ventriloquist act, thankfully. In fact, she's continued her career ever since her "AGT" win and is even touring with her own show. Posting frequently to social media, Farmer is barely recognizable as the shy 12-year-old the world got to meet. Let's take a look at her now.

Darci Lynne Farmer has no shortage of incredible performances, but her audition performance for "America's Got Talent" will always be remembered as one of her most endearing. Standing sweetly on the stage with her puppet, when the then-12-year-old began to sing "Summertime," the audience couldn't believe what they were seeing. It's no wonder judge Mel B decided to give her the Golden Buzzer, instantly progressing the young girl to the live competition, as Farmer began crying tears of joy.

Darci was such a huge hit with the audience for the talent competition as she resonated with viewers unlike any other. She eventually went on to be the winner of season 12, making her the youngest person to ever win "AGT."

Following her success on season 12 of the show, Farmer was invited back for "America's Got Talent: The Champions." Though she didn't win that edition of the show, she was the first runner-up. That's a great overall run for a young lady with such a unique talent. By doing what she loves, Farmer definitely proved that there's still an audience for ventriloquism.

Still performing her amazing ventriloquist act, which has only gotten more refined as she grows up, Farmer has also set off on multiple national tours in the last few years, including her 2018 tour, which sold out in 6 minutes, and her 2020 tour, "Fresh Out of the Box." Currently performing across the United States with her "My Lips Are Sealed (Except When They're Not)" tour, Farmer will be busy with the show until March 2022.

In fact, Farmer has appeared on "AGT" since winning her season, showing off not only new puppets of hers but also how she is growing up. She appeared on the show last year in Aug. 2020 at the age of 15, where she showed off a new puppet of hers named Ivan. Ivan, who is Australian, captivated the audience with a rendition of Justin Bieber's "Baby," and in a surprising twist, the audience even learned that he has a connection to one of Farmer's other puppets!

Now in 2021 — four years since Farmer's win on "AGT" — the teen is 16-years-old, with her 17th birthday fast approaching in October. The ventriloquist has grown up a lot and according to her social media channels, she even has her driver's license, while she attended prom earlier this year in the spring.

Posting frequently to social media, Farmer is managing to find the right balance between her ever-growing ventriloquism career and being a teenager. Popular on both TikTok and Instagram, if it weren't for her famous puppet Petunia — who frequently appears in her posts — you'd be forgiven for not even recognizing her!

It's heartwarming to see that although she's grown up and looks a little different, Farmer still has her infectious smile that the world got to know when she was just 12-years-old. Now, Farmer has grown into a gorgeous young lady who clearly has a zest for life. From photos where she shows off her taste for fashion, including Gen Z trends like buckets hats, to videos of her performing with her puppets, Farmer's 880,000 followers clearly can't get enough.
