Catherine Zeta-Jones Passed On Her Looks To Son Dylan Douglas

Nov 26, 2020

Dylan Douglas—the son of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas—has certainly inherited the best from both of his famous parents. From his mother's side, he's gotten her looks, appearing like a male version of Zeta-Jones, while on his father's side he's inherited that star-quality that runs in the Douglas family.

His grandfather also happens to be Kirk Douglas, so it's no secret that Dylan has big shoes to fill. However, he's also been born into a family full of talent, so we have no doubt he'll go on to great things.

The first joint child of actors Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dylan Douglas was born on August 8, 2000. He was joined a few years later by younger sister Carys, who was born in April 2003. The kids also have an older half-brother, Cameron Douglas, who is his father's child from a previous marriage. The family lived in Bermuda until 2009 before moving to the United States.

Dylan's parents have always been in the limelight, whether it be separately, or together. Michael Kirk Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones met in 1996 at the Deauville Film Festival. According to E! Online, Catherine knew that Michael wanted to meet her, but she was wary of this because she didn't know what that would exactly mean.

But their meeting must have been successful, as the two started dating and by New Year's Eve of 1999, Michael and Catherine were engaged before getting married in New York in 2000. Given how their relationship has unfolded, Catherine is probably quite happy that she had the great fortune to meet Michael and build their family together.

Despite their incredibly famous parents, for the most part, Dylan and Carys live out of the spotlight. But on occasion, the kids have appeared with their parents at public events, especially as they've gotten older.

One such moment was earlier this year when Michael shared a photo to his Instagram showing him and Dylan in Wisconsin in February. The photo showed the father and son both stylishly dressed in black, with Michael donning a suit while Dylan opted for a more age-appropriate sports jacket with jeans and sneakers. What's more, the photo revealed just how much Dylan resembles his beautiful mother! Blessed with her rich dark hair and matching eyebrows that frame his similarly striking eyes, as well her smile, it's clear that Dylan is a male version of his gorgeous mom.

Meanwhile, Catherine shared her own post earlier this year too, a throwback video of when Dylan was still at school, as he gave a speech to his class. The clip showed how grown-up Dylan was as he delivered a powerful and moving talk. In it, he describes how he struggled for a while in his personal life and with dyslexia, which he'd had since the age of five, at a time when his parents were going through their own struggles, but that his school-life was positive and helped him through. He said:

"My first few years in America were hard, my mother was working in Broadway and was working when I was sleeping, and asleep when I was up. Also during this time, my father was diagnosed with stage four cancer."

Michael's battle with stage four tongue cancer had been widely documented in the media at the time. Dylan continued on:

"At home, I was alone, but at school I was far from lonely. At Winward I was free. It was like the Mecca of dyslexics."

He then spoke of happier times at home, saying:

"In 2010 everything was normal again at home, I could finally see my mum again and my dad was cancer free. Everything was beautiful again."

Thankfully, his father's cancer was treated with chemo and radiation therapies and he's since recovered, beating cancer officially in 2011. He told French media outlet Paris Match at the time, as reported by People Magazine:

“It’s weird, I know, but during the whole period of chemotherapy and radiation, it never crossed my mind that I could die."

No doubt the legendary actor found strength in his loving wife and children, who have supported him along the way.

Dylan's speech highlights his maturity and intelligence, even while still a teenager. He's got great role models in both of his parents and no doubt he'll have a big career in his future, whatever profession he decides to pursue.
