In what has been described as a 'popcorn-dropping moment', Lashana Lynch will be portraying the new 007 agent in the 25th Bond film, as confirmed by the Daily Mail.

Daniel Craig will still be playing the iconic role of James Bond in the new movie, with Lynch’s character taking over the 007 title.

"There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says 'Come in 007', and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.” A source told the Daily Mail. "It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman."

According to the source, the plot involves a ‘global crisis’, which will force Bond out of retirement.

According to the Guardian, Lashana Lynch, who is 31, is originally from West London and has Jamaican heritage. You might recognize her from previous high-profile roles such as that of Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel. News of the 31-year-old portraying the new 007 agent has caused a wave of support on social media.

“Wow. Lashana Lynch is the next 007. She’s not playing Bond but will take over the code name. Brava, Phoebe Waller-Bridge for ushering in a new era where WoC can lead a spy series, like Sandra Oh in #KillingEve. H/t @iamlaurenp” wrote Nancy Wang Yuen on twitter

It has also been confirmed that Christoph Waltz, who played Ernst Stavro Blofeld in 2015’s Spectre, will be reprising his role in the new movie. According to People, Waltz had previously stated he would not be starring in the series again.

The film is set to be released in cinemas by April next year, despite meeting a number of major hick-ups during production, which include three explosions, a couple of injuries and even Grace Jones walking out according to the Sun.
