'Bomb Cyclone' To Crash Against East Coast Before Polar Vortex Unleashes Tremendous Cold By The End Of The Week

An unbelievable cold has punished the east coast of the United States for the past few days, but as far as we know the worst of it is yet to come! This is a warning to all of you reading this: make sure you have plenty of warm clothes on, wood for the fire, and food so you are prepared for the severe winter weather late this week. 

Surely you'll be thinking, what the hell is a "Bomb Cyclone"? 

In a nutshell, it is a winter hurricane of snow. However, it's called "bomb cyclone" because its pressure is predicted to fall so fast, which is an indicator of explosive strengthening. Therefore we expect very strong winds with a mixture of snow storms ripping through eastern states.

How much snow, how much wind, and where?

The weather will start developing in Florida and Georgia before evolving into a wild Atlantic storm as it heads up north. We should expect something in the region of a foot of snow to blanket Manhattan come Thursday.

It is predicted that this storm could rank as the most intense over the waters east of New England in decades! While there will be some intense blizzard conditions, the most extreme conditions will remain over the ocean far from land.

The National Weather Service has already let us know about a mix of light freezing rain, light sleet, and light snow which is expected today with a significant amount of ice, which will make it dangerous to drive. 

From Norfolk to the Maryland and Delaware beaches, there is an estimated snowfall of 3 to 6 inches following heavy snow from Wednesday afternoon through to Thursday evening. 

Record Breaking Cold Weather

That's right everyone, you think you've had it bad in the past. Time to brace yourself for this stint of freezing weather heading our way. The wind loops and the vortex strengthening from sucking in the cold air from the North Pole and Greenland will converge on the region over the next few days. 

Temperatures are forecasted to be 20 to 40 degrees below normal, which makes this the coldest winter ever!
