In a world where Hollywood marriages can easily fall apart in just a few years (or even months), couples that remain together through thick and thin are sometimes the reminder we need that love is still out there.

Barbra Streisand and James Brolin have been married for 21 years and remain as smitten as ever with one another. But what is their secret to a successful marriage?

Streisand, 76 and her husband, James Brolin, 77, got married in 1998 and have remained strong since. According to the singer, the two met on a blind date, when Brolin was instantly charmed by her brutal honesty.

"I met him at a dinner and expected a bearded mountain-man type, and he had cut off all his hair and was clean-shaven," She told W Magazine. "I asked him, “Who screwed up your hair?” He later told me that’s when he fell in love with me. My fella likes to hear the truth, which is unusual."

The 76-year-old jokingly revealed that Brolin had claimed he could cook, which instantly made Steisand think of him as a catch.

"So he came with a sushi roller, that wooden thing and made sushi and I love sushi," She recalled when speaking on The Meredith Vieria Show. "So, I thought, 'This is really great.' He has never cooked again."

And as for Brolin? Well, he seems to think their love has been written in the stars all along.

“If you look at Cancer and Taurus — not that I’m into astrology, but I’ll click on that if I’m on the computer — almost every time, it says, ‘You guys are magic together,’” he told Fox News. “‘You’re so opposite that you’re able to work it out.’ And that’s what makes a great team.”

Although the pair are still as in love as ever, a successful marriage always entails work from both parties.

"Kindness and honesty are the pillars of a happy marriage," Streisand told Extra TV. "Loving people share absolutely everything with each other."

And to keep the spark alive, Streisand makes sure to leave her husband romantic notes around their home.

"I'm always welcome when I get home," Brolin told Entertainment Tonight. "I always get notes, 'Hurry home!' When I get there, there's always something kind of great waiting for me, some plan, and I try to reciprocate."
