Angelina Jolie On Raising Her 6 Children — Says She Is ‘Human’ & ‘Honest’ With Them

Jan 02, 2022

Although Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were one of Hollywood's most famous couples during their 12 years together, they've now been separated since 2016. However, they're still connected through their six children — three of whom are adopted and three who are biological — all of whom they co-parent together.

And while the couple tried their best at keeping their children out of the spotlight over the years, the world was still able to get a glimpse of their kids as they grew up. These days, with the kids all being teenagers and young adults, they're mostly out of the public eye except for rare occasions when they make appearances with either of their parents.

That was the case one night in October 2021 when five of the six Jolie-Pitt children accompanied Jolie to the premiere of Marvel's "Eternals." In the film, Jolie plays Thena, one of the so-called Eternals, who are an immortal alien race. They're forced to come out of hiding after thousands of years in order to protect the Earth from the Deviants, their evil counterparts. Thena's power is that she can form weapons out of cosmic energy.

No doubt proud of their mom, Maddox, 20, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 13, all stepped out alongside her. Pax, 17, was the only child who didn't attend the event. Now all teenagers and young adults, it was fascinating to see how much each of the Jolie-Pitt clan has grown.

Also in October 2021, Jolie spoke about how great her kids are and how they all differ from each other now that they are older. Read on to find out more about the “Eternals” premiere and what else Jolie has to say about her children.

Photographed together on the red carpet (which was actually navy this time) at the “Eternals” event, Jolie looked like an incredibly proud mother as she smiled widely beside her kids. All of them looked truly happy and excited to be there, with big grins coming from all of them as they posed for one big family photo.

Jolie looked stunning as always, donning an olive-green strapless gown with Grecian-style draping on the front. She wore her deep brown hair down and otherwise, kept the look simple, accessorizing with earrings, bracelets and a lip cuff that contrasted with her classic look and showed that she still has her edge.

Dressing in a color palette that complemented Jolie's look, each of her children looked grown-up and gorgeous themselves. Maddox, the eldest, looked dapper in an all-black casual suit and chic black-and-white sneakers.

Vivienne looked adorable in a cream dress and matching sneakers, with her shoulder-length hair worn pinned back on one side. Her twin brother Knox mimicked Maddox's black suit, but his featured edgier styling with a skirt over pants and Dr. Martens boots.

Shiloh wore a beige asymmetrical dress that was similar in tone to Jolie's with cream ballet flats. Lastly, Zahara brought the Hollywood glamor in a full-length beaded silver gown, which happened to be worn by her mother at the 2014 Oscars.

On the red carpet, Jolie talked about their looks, revealing they opted for a mix of vintage and upcycling. She told Entertainment Tonight: "My kids are all mixed with vintage, and in my old Oscars dress. We did all vintage and upcycled my old stuff."

The Jolie-Pitt kids have grown up in the public eye and their mom couldn’t be prouder of the people they have become. "They're pretty great people," Jolie said to People. "And because there's so many of them, I think they've had a very significant effect on each other. It's not like I'm the head of anything. I'm very honest with my kids. And I'm very human with my kids."

Being a mom has been the most important role in the actress’s life. "I have six very individual human beings in my home. I am so excited about all the different stages and feelings and curiosities that they go through. Why wouldn't you be?" Jolie said. "We're supposed to help them figure out who they are. And you can't figure out who they are if you don't enthusiastically develop with them."

Even though she plays a hero on the big screen, Jolie is not immune to feeling powerless against the challenges of raising kids. "I'm not a perfect parent by any means," she explained. "Every day I feel like I'm more aware of everything I don't do right. And I'm pretty tough on myself because I feel often, 'Am I doing the right thing? Did I say the right thing?'"

In spite of those challenges, the mother of six has raised very caring and thoughtful children. She also shared that the love she gets from her kids has changed her for the better. Jolie added, "My children have done many, many loving things. My children's kindness has been very healing to me."
