If you haven’t been keeping up with American Idol, prepare to be blown away by this superstar! Gabby Barrett stunned the judges by perfectly impersonating former Idol winner Carrie Underwood, but Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan encouraged the 18-year-old to find her voice, and she has done exactly that!

During Monday night’s Top 24 elimination episode, Barrett took the stage with country duo Sugarland to perform their platinum-certified single “Stay.” This is one of the group’s most iconic songs, so Gabby had a lot to prove. Hitting every note in a stripped down acoustic version of the beautiful song, Gabby sang her parts perfectly and impressed Jennifer Nettles, who wrote the song.

Lionel Richie, who has worked with Nettles before on a remake of his 1983 hit song “Hello,” was the most impressed by Gabby’s performance and told his fellow judges, “I loved that so much.”

It was a huge night for Gabby, who landed a spot in the Top 14. She is working hard to pursue a career in country music despite her family’s wishes, but her dad has always been her biggest supporter.

“Gabby writes country music and she loves the country story. Her voice is so strong. She wants to bring a new sound to country,” Blase Barrett said.
