Abandoned Newborn Puppy Was Starving - But Then An Unlikely Mother Stepped Forward

Newborn puppies require around the clock care. From feeding to cleaning, as well as providing much-needed warmth, a mother is almost a necessity for newborns. Yet when the one day an old pitbull, now known as Noland, arrived at the Cleveland Protective League (APL), he had no one at his side. Without the assistance of a foster mother, APL knew Noland’s chance at survival would be touch and go.

As the employees of the rescue looked around, an idea struck one of the staff members. Lolaine, a tortoiseshell and white cat, had just recently given birth to a litter of four kittens. Perhaps this momma cat, high on the endorphins of raising her own litter, would accept Noland as her own. To everyone’s surprise, Lolaine took to raising the newborn puppy almost immediately and integrated the pup into her own litter. From nursing to cleaning, Lolaine considered Noland to be one of her own.

It’s a fact that pitbull puppies grow incrementally faster than newborn kittens; therefore, Noland still needs support. In addition to nursing from his foster mom, Noland is bottle fed up to eight times a day to help assist with his nutritional demands. Lolaine, however, watches over the procedure every time and when she feels the pup has had enough, she impatiently taps the staff member with a paw until the puppy is returned to his adoptive kitten siblings.
