7 Unexpected Changes That Your Body Goes Through As You Age

Our bodies go through many various changes as we get older. Some of these changes are obvious while others are more subtle and can even be unexpected. These changes can become more apparent with time, but they're likely to happen slowly throughout the aging process so that by the time you notice them, it's already too late to do anything about it. While you cannot stop the aging process, knowing about these changes may give you some time to delay them.

1. Nails become brittle

The thickness of your nails is a dependable way of indicating the status of your body. If you are in good health, your body will supply the hormones needed to keep your nails thick and healthy. But, as you age, you hormones will change. Your nails may change in thickness, but either way they will become brittle.

2. Hair color fades

It's a well-known fact that your hair may become grey as you age. And the older that you get, the more obvious that your grey hairs will be. This is because your hair will stop receiving the melanin it needs to produce color.

3. Posture weakens

As you get older, you may slowly lose the muscle and joint strength that is habitual for your posture. This will cause a body to stoop forward and the back and spine won't be as straight as it once was.

4. Sleep cycle changes

Your sleep cycle will begin to change. You may begin to feel sleepy earlier, wake up earlier, and even wake up more frequently throughout the night. You'll also find that your sleep is not as deep as it used to be.

5. Allergies are more pronounced

As you age, your immune system begins to decline, so those allergies that may have only been a minor inconvenience before will now cause more of a problem. There may be some new allergies that you're susceptible to, as well.

6. Taste buds change

Getting older means that your cells will regenerate at a slower pace, and this includes your taste buds. As a result, they may even begin to feel numb or not as sensitive as they used to. You'll find yourself disliking things that you used to enjoy because of this.

7. Feet will thin

Your feet have a tougher tissue to keep you supported and moving, like a cushion to help you stand and walk. But over time, even the toughness of that tissue will begin to wear and thin out, so that cushion disappears. This will cause you to be unable to stand or walk for as long as you used to.
