2,744-Stair Hiking Trail Reaches Higher Than 8,000 Feet

May 23, 2020

The Manitou Springs Incline is a 2,744-stair hiking trail in Colorado that reaches more than 8,000 feet. Because of its unbelievable incline and the trail's natural beauty, the incline attracts hikers from around the world. Unfortunately, the trail has been closed indefinitely since March 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are some places in the world that tap into our spirituality, leading us through breathtaking scenery and fueling our wildest dreams. Many are natural wonders like waterfalls. Others are ancient structures made by long-lost civilizations, such as Machu Picchu in Peru, a landmark that makes us wonder how people in the past could manage to build such magnificent structures.

Such beautiful things are good for our souls. They make us reflect on aspects of life beyond what we could fully comprehend. They remind us that we will never know everything about our world.

One of these wonders in our country is a hiking trail in Colorado called the Manitou Springs Incline. A total of 2,744 stairs create an 8000-foot climb that attracts people from all over the world, according to the Manitou Springs website.

At its highest point, it seems to lead us through the clouds. A person must be prepared for the climb, of course. This hike should not be attempted by someone who isn’t in suitable health.

Despite its steep incline, many people have enjoyed the climb. Bringing their bottles of water and wearing sneakers, they embark on a journey of enlightenment. When we are faced with feats grander than our fears, we become stronger people. When we take on challenges that most shy away from, we grow internally — like the hiking trail itself.

The trail was opened to hikers in 2013, but was closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. As of May, the landmark remains closed, but we should not lose hope; it won’t be closed forever, and the beautiful view waits for us when the world comes together again. Is the climb worth it? Those who have made it up and back don’t regret a moment of the adventure, not even the physical challenges it presents.

As the Earth Wonders website describes it: “The few achievers who have made it to the top, swear by their life, and sing songs of the beautiful view that awaits beyond the climb."

We might be waiting for the world to open again, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make plans. If you’re a hiker seeking a place for spiritual revival, keep Manitou Springs in mind. It’s waiting.
