12-Year-Old Girl Brings Whitney Houston's Spirit To Life On Stage

May 26, 2018

Looks can be deceiving! Especially when on a show like Britain's Got Talent, it's important to continually be aware to make sure that you don't let any talent pass you by.

That being said, it's not often that someone passes by that is truly talented and able to bring so much to the table with their performance. Because of this, when 12-year-old Maia Gough sheepishly walked onto stage, the judges seemed to know what to expect. When she began introducing her family and saying that she takes after critically-acclaimed pop icon Whitney Houston, these reservations were written across judge Simon Cowell's face.

However, as soon as she began singing, it was clear something entirely different was about to happen. Instead of having a typical voice of a 12-year-old, Maia brought with her a voice well beyond her age, showing off a deep, developed form of singing that is emblematic of the most impressive pop stars.

Her rendition of "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston ended up being incredibly heartwrenching, getting an emotional response from both the judges and the audience. Even after she had stopped singing, the clapping went on for what seemed like ages with all of the judges giving a standing ovation.

It's quite incredible when someone has a voice that matches the great pop stars of the 20th century, but even more mystifying when the person singing is someone incredibly young as well. We're sure that her talents will take her even further, we're just excited to find out where exactly that will be!
