11-Year-Old Girl Rescues Brother From Stranger Attempting To Take Him By Using Important Lesson

Oct 19, 2023

Most parents wish that the world was a completely safe place. No one wants to have to tell their children about the evil that exists in our society. In a perfect world, parents could let their children stay innocent forever, but for their own safety, sometimes it's important to teach kids about the realities of the world in which we live.

Julianne Moore was taught by her father, Joshua Moore, about potential predators and evil-doers that exist in the world. While Joshua never wanted to scare his 11-year-old daughter, he wanted her to be able to recognize a threat if she saw one.

Fortunately, this lesson would come in handy one sunny afternoon in May 2019. Julianne was playing with her little brother, 6-year-old Hayden, outside their home in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio. Julianne noticed a man observing her and her brother and muttering under his breath.

All of a sudden, the man lunged toward them and grabbed Hayden's arm. Julianne knew she didn't have much time to react. She grabbed Hayden's other arm and pulled him, fiercely protective of her little brother. All the while, she screamed for help.

As Julianne pried Hayden free from the creepy man's grasp, she pulled him into the safety of their backyard. There, she alerted her father as to what had just transpired. Joshua bolted out of his yard and confronted the predator, but the man ignored Joshua and quickly walked away from the scene. Joshua returned to tend to his children and called the police.

According to CBS News, cops were able to track down and arrest 33-year-old Pedro Luyando of Cleveland on charges of abduction. Julianne recounted the scary incident.

“He started to talk to us, but we really couldn't figure out what he was saying," the 11-year-old said. "It was like gibberish so we really didn't think much of it."

She continued, "When he tried to grab my brother, I knew like this was serious. This was not like any handshake or anything. I just grabbed my brother and went into the backyard because there was no time to panic. You just have to go with it."

A report from News 5 Cleveland detailed that Julianne had carried her little brother into the backyard to safety and away from the potential abductor.

Julianne said she remembered her parents' lessons of always staying calm and looking out for her little brother.

"My heart dropped because I know that I saved my brother. He would not be here right now," she said. "The best thing I could do was take him and go because it's not good to panic when there's problems because I could've wasted time just sitting there panicking and not knowing what to do."

The residents of Cleveland hailed Julianne as a hero. The Northeast Ohio AMBER Alert Facebook page posted about Julianne’s brave actions, further expressing her heroism.

Joshua said that he couldn't be prouder of her actions, which might have just saved Hayden's life. "She's my hero. She saved my son," Joshua explained. "I told everyone, I truly believe my son wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for her."
